Cojute - San Salvador 97-85 The most important game in the last round took place in Cojutepeque between third ranked San Salvador (7-4) and fourth ranked Cojute (7-5) on Thursday night. San Salvador was defeated by Cojute on the road 97-85. Cojute outrebounded San Salvador 42-29 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) had a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Kevin Martinez (186-0) chipped in 21 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side naturalized American point guard Roberto Martinez (185-91, college: OLLU) responded with 26 points and 8 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) scored 25 points and 7 rebounds. Cojute have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 7-5 record. San Salvador at the other side dropped to the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Santa Ana. Cojute are looking forward to face Brujos (#6) in Izalco in the next round. San Salvador will play on the road against Aguila (#5) in San Miguel and is hoping to win this game. Top-ranked host Santa Tecla (11-0) smashed their biggest opponent Santa Ana (7-4) 130-94. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana's 42. They outrebounded Santa Ana 56-32 including a 41-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santa Tecla players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Santa Ana's players. Puerto Rican forward Owens Perez (203-92) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort and Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-88) supported him with 29 points. Four Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. Even 47 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals by American forward Ron Lawton (196-95, college: NMHU) did not help to save the game for Santa Ana. Guard Benjamin Colocho (186-99) added 15 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla have an impressive 11-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 11-0 record. Santa Ana lost third consecutive game. They keep the second place with four games lost. They share the position with San Salvador. Santa Tecla will play against Fantasmas (#7) in San Vicente in the next round where they are favorite. Santa Ana will play on the road against Chalchuapa (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track. Fourth ranked Cojute (7-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Chalchuapa (1-9). Cojute smashed Chalchuapa 116-91 on Saturday. Cojute dominated down low during the game scoring 94 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 70. Cojute forced 23 Chalchuapa turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNCP) fired 37 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists (on 15-of-19 shooting from the field) for the winners. Swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) chipped in 32 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Cojute players scored in double figures. Forward Marcus Feagin (192-91) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 18 rebounds and forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: DelVal) added 33 points (!!!) respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cojute will meet at home Brujos (#6) in the next round. Chalchuapa will play against the league's second-placed Santa Ana and hope to win that game. Aguila defeated Brujos 77-62. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican guard Victor Carattini (185-92, college: PR-Bayamon) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) contributed with 26 points for the winners. Four Aguila players scored in double figures. Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and naturalized Canadian Jose Araujo (187-86, college: UNBC, agency: Interperformances) added 20 points in the effort for Brujos. Brujos' coach rotated eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aguila moved-up to fifth place. Brujos at the other side dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Aguila's next round opponent will be higher ranked San Salvador (#3) at home and it may be quite challenging game. Brujos will play against Cojute in Cojutepeque and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Third ranked San Salvador (7-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Fantasmas (2-8). San Salvador defeated Fantasmas 117-105 on Friday. San Salvador shot 68.7 percent from the field. San Salvador had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. San Salvador looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Fantasmas' players. American-Puerto Rican forward Julian Torres (206-97, college: LSUA) had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized American point guard Roberto Martinez (185-91, college: OLLU) chipped in 23 points and 9 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) during the contest. Martinez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. San Salvador's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side American forward Harrison Rieger (193-98) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals and Bryan Masel scored 37 points (!!!) and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws). San Salvador moved-up to second place, which they share with Santa Ana. Fantasmas lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with eight games lost. San Salvador will face Aguila (#5) in San Miguel in the next round. Fantasmas will play on the road against the league's leader Santa Tecla and hope to win that game.
